Mr. Nylen teaches 6th grade here at Mountain View
school. He has been very fortunate this year because he has a wonderful group
of students who truly “get it” when it comes to RESPECT, his number
one rule. This means the class is
able to do more reading of novels instead of hearing him lecture about treating
others the way you like to be treated.
We have already completed our first novel, Number the Stars, by
Lois Lowry, and have started our second, Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen. Also, because of our level of respect,
we have been able to do many assignments in groups, which has been one of Mr.
Nylen’s goals this year.
Currently, we are working on a project to honor the victims of the 9/11
tragedy, a 9/11 Garden which is being designed and built by our class.
