The Role of the School Nurse:
The School Nurse must hold at
least a bachelor’s degree in nursing have a current RN license and in
addition requires certification (ESA).
Develop with parents and
school staff Individual healthcare plans (IHP/504) and Emergency Care Plans
(ECP) to accommodate children’s health needs at school and allow them
safe access to their educational potential
Team with educator’s
parents and other professional health care workers to identify possible health
problems that may adversely impact learning
Supervise and delegate
specific nursing tasks that some students may need in order to attend school
Perform nursing tasks for
students that only a licensed nurse can provide
Educating students staff and
parents on health related issues

Jo at Vista Middle, School, Tuesday, North Bellingham Elementary, Wednesday,
Central Elementary, Friday, Nursing Office (#17, at Vista).
Weekends you can find her
running or bike the trails of Whatcom County.
