Young Readers' Choice Award

This award is given to the favorite intermediate level chapter book each year.
Our 6th grade students, along with thousands of students all over Washington State,
vote to determine the winner.

Washington Children's Choice Picture Book

Twenty picture books are nominated annually.  Students in grades K-3 in Washington State vote in March for their favorite. When all the votes are tallied, the winning book becomes the Washington Children's Choice Picture Book of the Year.
It is a yearly tradition at Mt. View that  teachers of all students K-3 read each of the 18-20 nominated books to their class. The children then vote on their favorite.

Newbery Award

The Newbery award honors the best literature for children each year. This award was first given in 1922, to acknowledge quality writing for children. The winning novel has to have been written by an American author. Librarians are chosen each year to take part in the nomination and determination of one Newbery winner and two or three honor winners.

The Caldicott award is a focus on children's picture books. Each year this award recognises picture books for both art and content.
