Our Mission

The Mountain View learning environment is cooperatively supported by teachers, students, staff and parents, and encourages individuals as they strive to reach their highest potential in both academics and citizenship. The staff has high standards and expects students to attain their maximum potential, recognizing and respecting cultural, physical and academic uniqueness. Achievement is fostered by focusing on individual skills and abilities.

Mountain View's cooperative environment encourages growth in decision making, creative thinking and adaptability. This provides skills which enable students to become confident, productive, caring citizens with a sense of reponsibility toward learning as an ongoing, life long pursuit.

Our Volunteers

Our volunteers play a very important role in the programs at Mt. View. There are approximately 75 parents or community members currently volunteering. They work in all areas of the school from the playground to the classroom. Our Art Docent program was created and is staffed by volunteers.

Our Building

The original building was built in 1960 and was designed by a local architect- John Stewart. The building has been upgraded six times since then. Would you like a tour of the school? Because of the population growth in Ferndale 3 portables are on the site. Three new classrooms were built in1999.
  • 22 classrooms, Library and computer lab
    • Our computer lab consists of 30 IMAC computers and is located in a separate room adjacent to the library. In addition to the lab, each classroom has a Macintosh multimedia computer. The computers are linked through an ethernet network and have access to the internet.
    Kitchen and staff room Gym
  • Office, workroom, and conference room

Our Playground

The playground and surrounding land is approximately five acres graced by an outstanding view of Mount Baker. The Mt. View PTO has been instrumental in improving the playground. There are many new features including picnic tables for students to sit at and many new pieces of play equipment- some especially designed for the handicapped students.
