Public Alternative Education Resources:

According to WAC 392-121-182, “A school district alternative learning experience may make use of digital and/or on-line curricula, and may be delivered over the internet or using other electronic means. A school district alternative learning experience may also include significant participation by students, parents, and families in the design and implementation of a student's learning experience.”

    • An educational opportunity for families who want to educate their children at home, yet at the same time want to be able to offer them a wide variety of learning opportunities and resources.
    • A program designed to provide families with the opportunity to combine the best aspects of Home-Based Learning with the best aspects of the Lynden Public Schools.
    • An exciting educational opportunity for students, K-12th grade, residing in Whatcom County. A program created and directed by experienced home-school parents.

  • Meridian Parent Partnership Program (MP3) http://www.meridian.wednet.edu/mp3/MP3%20FAQ.htm
    • What is MPPP?  MP3 is an educational program designed to enrich the learning of children whose parents are their primary educators. It is operated by the Meridian School District.
    • How does MPPP fit the Alternative Learning WAC (Washington Administrative Code)?   MPPP is governed by WAC 392-121-182, also known as the Alternative Learning Law. This law requires that students in programs like MPPP have a Written Student Learning Plan that helps plan and track the child's progress. In addition, students will be in contact with a certificated teacher weekly.

    • The Home Connection program is an alternative learning experience designed to provide home school families of K – 12 students the opportunity to combine the best aspects of home-based learning and the public schools. Students are enrolled in the Blaine School District and are given the opportunity to choose from a variety of classes and workshops which support and supplement the parent’s teaching. Enrolled families have access to an experienced advisor who is knowledgeable in home-based instruction, setting goals, developing objectives, recommending resources, and assessing progress as well as a resource library, field trip opportunities and opportunities of connecting with other home school families to share ideas.
