FAQ

Transitions Class was created to address a desire  held by teachers, parents, and students to promote a successful transition year into  high school.  With the advent of our new block scheduling program, FHS believes that  students who are strongly founded in study and organizational skills, and who are committed and connected to their high school are the most likely to succeed.

We have developed a curriculum that focuses on teaching, practicing and applying skills to promote success in learning, living and working.  This includes topics like: time management, listening & note taking, oral communication, research process, test-taking, learning styles, and career & college planning.

The class is divided into two main components -  a skills focus and a guided study focus.  Students will participate in an instructional activity and have time to apply their skills to their homework and tasks for other classes.

Grading and evaluation is based on a point system.  Students will earn daily points for attendance, having their required notebook in class, participating and successfully completing the lesson and effectively using their study time.

Expectations are high for all students. It is required that students maintain an organized, complete notebook for their class work, maintain a personal student planner, engage in all  lessons and activities.

Communication between teachers and parents is strongly encouraged.   All teachers can be contacted by phone or e-mail.  See the Teacher page for details.
