Human Relations Council
Ferndale High School’s Human Relations Council began in 1992 as a way to celebrate the school’s diversity and bridge boundaries between different races and cultures. The HRC meets every Thursday after school in Ms. Kubic’s room. The advisor for is Mr. Jack MacSlarrow from the counseling office and is led by student Amy Englesberg. The main focus of the Human Relations Council is to educate students about diversity.
Color Guard
The color guard is a combination of dancing and movement with a flag, saber, and rifles. They take part in the Marching Band competitions during the fall season. Color Guard meets as a class every gold day at 6th period and counts as an elective. The color guard practices regularly on Monday nights for about two and a half hours and Saturdays for about two hours. If you have any questions contact Bryn Lamphiear or Mr. Menefee.
FFA
FFA is a club that deals with all sorts of things. FFA does a food drive, Adopt- a-Family, Donkey Basketball, and they even sell Spook Insurance. They also have a plant sale and are involved with animals. Most of the activities that the FFA is a part of are mainly at school, though sometimes they go to other schools for competitions. FFA meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month. If you are interested in getting involved talk to any of the teachers in the vocational building or any of the officers. The Secretary is Krista Coffey, the Treasurer is Jon Tremblay, the Sentinel is Kamaldeap Baumber, the Reporter is Daniel Agustin, and the Historian is Erin Kays.
Mecha Club
The purpose of Mecha Club is to explore Mexican culture. Meetings are on Wednesdays around 3:00 pm at a location to be announced. This nationwide organization has no requirements and is advised by Alvero Vicente. Activities include fundraisers for spring activities, dances, and floats.
Legal Eagles
Participate in teen court and get the chance to be a prosecutor or defendant. By participating in Legal Eagles, students learn how to speak in public and how to defend themselves or others by using facts. Besides involvement in teen court, students also get to go to watch small claims court. Legal Eagles is a great way to find out what kind of rights you have and it’s a great way to get involved. German Club
German Club usually meets every Wednesday after school. Frau Cooper is the advisor and usually lets her club members know when the next meeting is. You don’t have to speak German to join the club, just be able to enjoy the culture and the food. German Club does a lot of cooking. So if you like food and fun come check out German Club.
Chess Club
Chess Club advisors at Ferndale High School the are Mr. Pringle and Mr. Randy Kaech. They hold regular meetings every Thursday at 6:45 pm. At these meetings they practice for their competitive chess season, which is held during the winter sports season for two to three months. About ten to twenty students participate in this club and they are pretty good. They have won many trophies in the past. Math Team
The Math Team here at Ferndale High School is a group of students who take tests and participate in competitions against other schools. They meet when the advisor, Mr. Vulic announces a meeting. There is no set time for when meetings are, they’re sporadic.
FBLA
Ferndale High School has a great business club. FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. It shapes students for leadership roles. They normally meet every other Wednesday. They also try to do one activity per month for fun. FBLA also takes a part in volunteering around the community. This year they are focusing on Blue Skies for Children and are participating in many fundraisers with them. If you think you might be interested, you can talk to the advisor, Ms. Thomas. The meetings are normally held in room 701 out in the vocational building. Anna Kiceina is the president and would be happy to answer any questions you have. Honor Society
Honor Society is advised by Mrs. Sue Browne. Along with an application process, students are required to have a 3.5 or better grade point average. Club members participate in activities such as community service.
Bowling Club
Bowling Club practices at Mount Baker Lanes, in Ferndale, on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Their games are held on Saturdays. The club usually has about 15 people and is coached by Dug Nyenhuis. Anyone may participate.
Key Club
Mr. John Shaw is the advisor of Key Club. They meet every Wednesday after school in room 415. Key Club participates in community service.
Ches Kwin
Club officers include Jandy Pierre as President, Alisha Pierre as Vice President, Tyler Kinley as Treasurer, Theresa Zollner as Secretary, and Jaysona Revey as Historian. The club meets every Wednesday during lunch in room 614. The purpose of the club is to help Native students to feel connected to FHS, meet and plan activities, and celebrate their culture.
Knowledge Bowl
Knowledge Bowl is a form of team Jeopardy. It goes 45 – 50 minutes every Tuesday afternoon after school. There are competitions held about once a month during school or after school. If you would like to join contact Mr. Vulic or show up to a Knowledge Bowl meeting.
Anime Club
Anime Club meets every Thursday from 2:30 - 4:00 pm in room 608. All students with an interest in anime and/or manga are invited to join. Anime Club members play games, watch anime, and talk about related interests.
