Ferndale Schools

Strengthening Families Program will be offered to families with 10-14 year old children. The class will meet Tuesdays, January 24-March 6, 2012, from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at Whatcom New Life Fellowship, 2290 Main Street, Ferndale. Fee is $35 for all seven sessions. Childcare is provided.

This class helps parents to build bridges with their youth, using love and limits, and learning to encourage good behavior. It helps youth to develop their goals and dreams, understand their family’s values and appreciate their parents, as well as handling peer pressure, dealing with stress and reaching out to others.

At each class, dinner will be eaten together first. Then the adults and 10-14 year old children will meet separately, followed by a joint session to practice the skills learned in the separate sessions. The focus of the class is on open communication that strengthens the bonds between parents/guardians and their children. The class is designed to help parents and youth build on their strengths, and to help families grow and learn together.

Families are asked to attend all seven sessions.
