Ferndale Schools

Hello. This is Linda Quinn, Superintendent of the Ferndale School District. I am calling to let you know that schools will not be in session tomorrow, Wednesday, September 8, 2010, due to ongoing negotiations with our teachers' union. I am so sorry for the late notice and any inconvenience this may cause.

Please know we are all worked very hard over the weekend and into the early morning hours today to try to reach an agreement. The teachers also worked hard, and they did not make their final decision to go on strike until a little more than an hour ago.

We are continuing to negotiate, and I am optimistic we will reach an agreement. However, we cannot get everything done in time for a good opening of school for your children tomorrow, and we want to give you as much notice as possible so you can make necessary changes in your plans.

All events at all of our schools have been canceled today except for high school athletics, which operate under a different contract.

Elementary class lists will be posted on the front door of your child's school, just as they always have been in the past, so you can stop by to get that information if you choose.

It is important to us to keep you informed, so we are going to call you every day until this issue is settled some time between noon and 6:00 p.m. For more information, you can access our website atwww.ferndale.wednet.edu or call the district hotline at 383-9888.
