Ferndale High School’s production of the musical “Grease” has been nominated for five 5th Avenue High School Musical Awards of Seattle, Washington. These awards are “Tony” style awards created to honor the work, talent and commitment that students, parents and faculty devote to their school’s yearly musical production.

At a special meeting held May 8, school board members adopted Resolution No. 8-2009 Reduced Educational Program and Services for 2009-2010.

At a special school board session held May 6, Superintendent Roger Lehnert presented his recommended 2009-10 budget reductions to the school board.

Over the course of three afternoon work sessions the FSD Budget Advisory Group (BAG) developed a rank-order list of budget savings ideas (reductions, eliminations, revenue sources and additional operational efficiencies). This process was accomplished by grouping the suggestions that were submitted via the FSD 2009/10 Budget Survey into similar topics, establishing group consensus and finally by individual member voting. Voting members of the group were able to cast one vote per budget savings idea, representing their personal voting on each of the items listed.

Results from the FSD 2009/10 Budget Survey have been released. The district would like to thank those that participated for their suggestions and input. From March 1 to March 31, the survey had close to 800 responses from staff, students and community members. The results attached were taken from those responses, grouped according to area or department affected, approximate financial impact, and other relevant information was added as appropriate. These results will now be presented to the FSD Budget Advisory Group (BAG) on April 20 and April 21.

The Ferndale School District Board of Directors will hear public comment and review a proposed amendment to Resolution 23-2005 for Capital Improvements.

Originally action on this matter was scheduled for the board meeting on April 30, 2009. However, the board has postponed consideration of the matter to a future board meeting beyond the April 30 date.
