Preschool and Kindergarten Registration Set for Ferndale Schools

Kindergarten Parents with children who are planning to enter kindergarten in Ferndale School District in the fall of 2008 are to register during the week of March 10-14.

Registration hours are 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Parents should register children at the school they will be attending. If unsure of which school that is, please call 360/383-9207 or 383-9236.

Preschool Applications will be accepted for enrollment of three and four year olds into the district’s Native American Preschool Program. Registration will take place at Eagleridge Elementary School, 2671 Thornton Road.

For planning purposes, it is important that students register during the March 10th week. Placement of students in their neighborhood school in kindergarten is on a first come, first serve basis.

Kathy Pipkin, paraeducator at Eagleridge Elementary School, and Pat Roegele, paraeducator at Mountain View Elementary School, are recipients of the Washington State Classified Employee Award. The award program, enacted by the 2007 Legislature, recognizes outstanding contribution and commitment to education. Thirty-six recipients from across the state were selected for the award.

Vista Middle School Students Help Others Prosper in Global Community

Vista Middle School students in Gail Smedley's seventh grade Aiming High class have learned how fortunate they are to live in relative peace and prosperity and how they are members of a global community.

Through this realization, the class decided to share some of its blessings by helping aspiring entrepreneurs build better lives for themselves. Students registered on Kiva.org to become micro lenders to entrepreneurs in poor regions around the world. The class raised $150 which was matched by Smedley, to lend.

Washington ART Education Association Board of Directors has announced that Ann Marie DeCollibus has been selected as the recipient of the WAEA 2007 Secondary Art Teacher of the Year Award. DeCollibus was nominated by one of her peers to be considered for the WAEA Secondary Art Educator of the year award. The award is the highest honor an art educator can receive in the state.

At the Ferndale School Board meeting held September 27, Ferndale High School Vocational Teacher Michael Smith was honored as the Ed Erickson Teacher of the Year by the the Ed Erickson family and PEMCO insurance. PEMCO representative Jim Menzies presented Smith with a $5,000 stipend.
