Lesson Plans 

Intended Audience: 11th-12th grade English students

Purpose/Goals: To put Shakespeare in a familiar context for students who don't appreciate theatre, language or art that has been created outside their lifetimes.

District/State standards addressed: Washington State's Essential Academic Learning Requirements—Writing 1.1, 1.2, 1.3; Reading 1, 2, 3, 4; Communication 2, 4

This lesson plan covers about 7-10 days of class.

Day 1:
Question of the Day: What do you know about Shakespeare?
(15 min.)
Play sections of video PBS: In Search of Shakespeare Part I. (15 min.)
Intro Webquest concept and show students how to get started. (10 min.)
Begin WebQuesting and answering short answer questions. (30 min.)

Day 2:
Play sections of video PBS: In Search of Shakespeare Part II. (15 min.) Continue WebQuesting and answering short answer questions. (45 min.)
Meet for questions and comments. (10 min.)

Day 3: Question of the Day: What have you learned about Shakespeare? (10 min.)
Play sections of video PBS: In Search of Shakespeare Part III. (15 min.) Continue WebQuesting. (30 min.)
Begin answering "In Depth" answers. (15 min.)

Day 4:
Play sections of video PBS: In Search of Shakespeare Part IV. (15 min.) Continue
answering "In Depth" answers. (45 min.)
Meet for questions and comments. (10 min.)

Day 5:
Play sections of Cable in the Classroom's video
        Shakespeare in
the Classroom. (25 min.)
Finish WebQuesting. (45 min.)
Homework: PowerPoint Storyboard

Day 6: PowerPoint workday.

Day 7: PowerPoint workday.

Day 8-?: Additional Workdays if needed.

Day ?: Begin presentations.

Final Days: Finish presentation.
