Day 25 - 10/10 - Wednesday - Mentor Period Schedule

  1. Q.o.t.D. #12 - Free Write.  Tell me something I don't know about you.  Create some questions of the day and ask me to answer them.  Just write paragraphs with full sentences and appropriate punctuation.
  2. Remind them that the spelling test will be tomorrow!
  3. Brainstorm: topics for research.  What are they interested in?  Have them start by writing down 10 things they would like to know more about.  Then after 10 minutes or so, start a big list.  Maybe categorize some.  Once we’ve got a big list ask them to choose 1 topic to research.  Have them write down 5 facts they know about the topic, 5 things they think might be facts and 5 things they have no idea about.
  4. If there is time, you can take them to the lab (If you want to.) to start researching.  Tomorrow we’ll be talking about sources.

Day 24 - 10/9 - Tuesday
  1. Reading #5 - Journey at Dawn.  Pg 140  in Journeys: Emblem.
  2. Summarize as you go along.  Then write a summary.  Remember the summary is only 1 short paragraph of 4-5 sentences and details what happens in the story.  
  3. Answer questions:

    2. Conflict: 1, 2, 3
  4. Log in to IMS to get your English grade as of Friday.  Write it on  your weekly progress report.  Then work on any assignments you owe.

Day 23 - 10/8 - Monday

  1. Q.o.t.D. #11 - What is (are) the most vivid memory (or memories) in your life?  Birthday? Injury?  Major Illness?  Accomplishment?  Tell me about one or two.  Use details, sensory, sight, taste, sound, touch.

Q.o.t.D. #10 - What do you do about DRAMA?  If you hear someone say something about someone what is your response?  Tell me about a time when you have trafficked in rumors.   How much should we believe of what read, hear or see?  Consider the current state of the media and reality TV?  What are the long-term results?  Where do we go from her at Clearview?

  1. Q.o.t.D. #7 - Our lives are full of moments when everything (or at least something significant) changes.  I like to call these Crux [Etymology (origin): Latin cruc-, crux cross, torture] points.  Tell me about a moment in your life that was difficult; a point (or points) where you may have had to make a tough choice.
  2. Spelling Words - elements, famous, exciting, exiting, dollars, rhythm, rhyme, necessary, process, current.  Write and use them in sentences.  Test Friday.  
  3. Writing Assn #2 - Personal Narrative.

Day 12 - 9/21

  1. Mug Shots - Daily Oral Language - Pgs 12.  Do Focus on Punctuation first and go over it.  Then do the paragraph on pg 14.: A Groundbreaking Story.  If you do not finish it, it is Homework.

  1. Q.o.t.D. #6 - Lifetime Achievement Award.  The year is 2050.  You are being given a lifetime achievement award.  In third person describe your accomplishments.  Consider family, career, hobbies, etc.  For example: "This year one of the busiest individuals in the world, Rob Slater, will recieve a Lifetime Achievement award.  His work as a teacher..."
