  • Write a summary of what has happened in the book so far.  This should be about half a page.  Try to capture the essential occurences with enough but not too many details.
  • What do you think will happen next in the book?

  • Write down 5-10 things you know and 5-10 things you don't know, aren't sure of or doubt.


Day 8 - 9/19

Q.o.t.D. #4 - Think sensory: STSTS.  Describe a day or an experience (a dream?) from the last two weeks (this week and break).  Bring it to life, reincarnate it in your mind and on the paper.  Reincarnate from carn: meat/body.  Return to the body.  The writing should be able to take you back into that moment.



Day 7 - 9/16
  1. Novel Read: 20 minutes
  2. Reading Journal #4: Answer the following questions.
  • What is the story about?  What themes are appearing?
  • Write a summary of what has happened in the book so far.  This should be about half a page.  Try to capture the essential occurrences with enough but not too many details.
  • What do you think will happen next in the book?
  1. Spelling Test #1: Take, Exchange and correct.  Students can rewrite any they missed 5 times to get full credit.
  2. Spelling List #2: college, wait, measure, several, collage, certain, finally, weight, scientist, exercise
  3. Write spelling words in complete sentences that demonstrate an understanding of the meaning of the words.
  4. Final Introductions due.


Day 6 - 9/15
  1. Q.o.t.D. #3 - (Remember punctuation, spelling, paragraphing, etc. 2/3-3/4 page. ) Respond to one or more of the following quotes:  Use examples from your life and details to illustrate your thoughts and feelings.
o "The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep running."
o "No one can make you feel bad without your consent."
o "Everyone makes mistakes.  It's what you do afterwards that counts."
o "People are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."

Day 5 - 9/14
  1. Novel Read: 15 minutes
  2. Reading Journal #3: Answer the following questions.
    • What new things (plot twists, characters, settings ) have been added to the original problem?
    • What is the setting of this novel?  Place and time frame?
    • What is the genre?  Mystery, Fantasy? 
    • What do you notice about the authors writing style?  Is the story told in First or Third Person P.O.V. (Point of View)?  Does the author use a lot of dialogue?  Give an example of dialogue that stands out as good or bad and explain why it stands out.
  1. Personal Intro: Edit/Rewrite Intros.



Day 4 - 9/13
  1. Q.o.t.D. #2: Create a place of peace for yourself.  Describe in depth, detail.  What does it smell, taste, sound, smell, feel like?  It might be a real place or a place in your imagination.  Make it so real that when you are stressed you can imagine yourself in an oasis of calm.
  2. Edit/Rewrite Personal Intro.


                       

Day 3 - 9/12

  1. Novel Read: 15 minutes
  2. Reading Journal #2: Answer the following questions.
  • What is the initial problem faced by the main character(s)?
  • Who are the main characters and what are they like?  Describe them in detail.
  • What new information did you gain from the reading?
  1. Novel Expectations:  Summary, Project
  2. Writing Personal Intro: 250 words 1 page, double-spaced, 12 pt. font.  Include: Who you are and where you come from.  Talk about your family, your passions, dreams and goals.



Day 2 - 9/9

  1. Choose a Novel.
  2. Novel Read: 15 minutes
  3. Reading Journal: Answer the following questions.
    • What is going on as the story begins?
    • Who is telling the story?  Describe them.
    • What is the setting of the novel?
    • How does the author get you to read on and/or hold your interest?
  1. Intro to computer lab
  2. Work on notebook covers.

  3. Concept of Question of the Day: Q.o.t.D. 1/2-1 page.  Full sentences, paragraphs, punctuation, best spelling, etc.
  4. Q.o.t.D. #1:  Tell me about your best and worst English experiences.  Then tell me about what you like to read.  Are there any things I should know about you as an English student.
  5. Create a new folder in your student folder titled FRSOEnglish or something like that.
