  2. Create a climax to your story - the point where the end is uncertain. 150-200 words.

  2. Create an ending to your story. 150-200 words.

  2. Create a beginning to your story. 150-200 words.



Day 39 - 11/1
  1. S.P.E.W. #30 - Think of how your characters are going to talk and spew a bunch of words they might use and how they sound different from other characters.
  2. Create dialogue between with 2 or more of your characters. 150-200 words.

  2.  - Think of settings for scenes in your story, spew a bunch of sensory descriptions.
  3. Take your plot diagram from yesterday and create a description of the setting for your story. 150-200 words.


Day 37 - 10/30
  1. Plot: Today we will be searching for a Plot.  We want a story to tell.  So let's look at the myths, fairy tales, and fables of human history.  Check out this Hans Christian Anderson (Scroll down to the story list.), Grimm's Fairy Tales, Tales from around the World, or do a search of your own.
  2. Find a story that you can adapt to a different setting.  Write a list of the actions of the plot in a column on the left hand side of a piece of paper.  Now write your adaptation of the plot on the right.

S.P.E.W. #17  –   Today you are going to tell a story.  You will be writing an excuse note to be delivered to your teacher telling why, in aggravating detail, you were not at school yesterday and why you do not have the assignment that was due.  Be creative.  Tell the biggest tall tale you can think of or make it incredibly believable.  Remember there is a “lie” in the middle of “believe.”

  2. Sensory expansion: How can you describe what you Saw, Touched, Smelled, Tasted and Heard (Sound) in a creative manner, with some depth.  Moving from "Picnic Table" to "Red-brick stained, rickety, rough picnic table."  Take 10 of your sensory items and expand them.  Samples

  3. Sensory Poem: About a Day - Poem #1:  Write a poem of at least 10 lines using at least some of your 10 Sensory Expansion sentences from yesterday. 
  4. Note on Poems, Typing and Writing Portfolio:   All poems except the Graphic poems will be typed.  Graphic poems will be scanned in.  Each student will create a writing portfolio in PowerPoint or in HTML/Mozilla.  The poetry portion will be completed by midterm and is required for passing.
                 


Day 1 - 9/6

  3. Concept of S.P.E.W. - Student Personal Expository Writing.  Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg.
  4. Expectations: We will write.  Then we will rewrite.  Then you will type it into the computer rewriting as you go.  Then I will give you suggestions and you will rewrite again.
  5. Sensory Walk. Walk outside writing down all the sensory items STSTS (Sight, Touch, Scent, Taste, Sound) you can find.  Aim for 20.
Assignment:   Find a poem that means something to you to read at Wednesday's CoffeeHouse Poetry Reading.  Due Friday.
