Day 17 - 5/9

  1. Web Design Intro.  
    • Open a Word document.  
    • Find 'good' websites in terms of design, ease of use and attractiveness.
    • Find sites that appeal to you graphically.  
    • In the word document make a list of 5-10 websites with inserted hyperlinks (so when I look at your evaluation, I can jump to the site.  You  may also use the ctrl PrintScreen to save graphical copies into your CompApps folder.  
    • Each site should be evaluated by the following criteria.
  • Ease of navigation: Describe the navigation; pull down bars?  Link buttons?  Is it consistent throughout the site?
  • Attractive visually: Not too busy or too many colors?  Photos, graphics used sparingly?
  • Font use?  Only a few fonts?  Fonts big enough to be easy to read?  Good background for the text? 
    • Extra Credit.  Make a powerpoint that includes screenshots (ctrl-PrintScreen) saved into Paint, shrunk to fit the page, and including the evaluation information.

Day 15 - 5/5  - Excel
  1. Open Microsoft Excel
  2. Type a list of 10+ items. 1 item per cell. It could be your favorite Bands, Movies, Best friends, etc.
  3. Insert a column before the column you created.  Type numbers in the new column in front of the first three items.  Select those three cells, then right click and drag it down to the bottom item.
  4. Type a second column of items that relate to the first.  It might be a song from the band, an actor from the movie, or the last name of the person.
  5. Now select all three columns, copy them and paste them two columns to the right.  Then paste again two columns to the right of that. 
  6. Now we are going to alphabetize the items in the second set by the first column of information.  Then we will alphabetize the third set using the second column of information.

Day 12 - 5/2 - PowerPoint - Day 2
  1. Open PowerPoint.
  2. Save as “Assn050206” in your folder.
  3. Create a Title Page called “Computer Applications”.
  4. Give it a background and change the font.
  5. Insert a Next button with a sound effect.
  6. Add an image of a computer or computer related item.
  7. Create a new page and bring it in with a slide transition. Title it “Question #_”.
  8. You will create 3 pages with questions like the Scavenger Hunt.  They do not need to have anything to do with computers.  They could be thematically based or completely unrelated.  Each page needs a transition, an image and links forward and back.  For example, your question could be what 2 Hair Metal bands did Adrian Vandenberg play guitar for? 
  9. INsert an HTML link to a website that might help them search.  For the above example: www.amazon.com.
  10. Create a credits page.
  11. Type an answer sheet in word and save it in your folder. 
  12. Then trade places with someone else and take their quiz.




Day 11 - 5/1 - PowerPoint Intro
1.    Open PowerPoint.
2.    Save as “Assn050106” in your folder.
3.    Create a Title Page called “Artifact & Reflection”.
4.    Give it a background and change the font.
5.    Insert a Next button with a sound effect.
6.    Create a new page and fly it in with a slide transition.
7.    Title it “Artifact”.
8.    Repeat with “Reflection” and with “Credit”.




Day 10 - 4/28
  1. Today we're going to explore Microsoft Publisher.  We will create ELECTRONIC [Do Not Print]  business cards, a greeting card, .



Day 9 - 4/27
  1. Today we should be finishing an Internet Scavenger Hunt.  Answer the questions in a Word Document and save it to your Comp Apps folder. 
  2. We will also be going over each of the programs that you have access to on the lab computers.
  • First Identify your computer's name.  Desktop:RtCl "My Computer", LftCl "properties, Cl Computer name.
  • Copy the computer name into a word document and save it into your folder.
  • Type the following list and note which programs your computer has:
    • Microsoft Office
    • Adobe Reader (Which version?)
    • Internet Explorer
    • Firefox
    • Mozilla
    • Microsoft Encarta
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe Premier
    • Windows Movie Maker
  • Open Encart or got to Encarta On-line and find a fact that you can ask Rob.  Type it at the bottom of your page.



Day 8 - 4/26
  1. Work on Internet Scavenger Hunt. for about 15 minutes.
  2. Open your Bizletter Backup
  3. Add a paragraph at the end describing your favorite websites.
  4. Convert the name of the website into a hyperlink



Day 7 - 4/25

Word Assignments:
I.    Today we will working with Microsoft Word
A.    Open to page WB78
B.    Save the document in your folder as CA042506
1.    Type 4 lines using 1 font per line.
a)    Make 1 line Bold, 1 Italic, 1 underline and leave 1 normal
C.    Now you are going to select individual words.
1.    Open font menu by right-clicking on the words you selected
2.    Now you will utilize the effects on the first page of the font menu
a)    Use all effects on individual words except ‘hidden’
b)    Use several colors on several words.
3.    Now utilize the text effects on the third font tab titled “text effects”
a)    Use all 6 effects
D.    Go to the Format tab and change the background color of the page.
II.    Now we are going to cut and paste a numbered or bulleted list into our word document. 
[Remember the ctrl key combinations: ctrl-c, ctrl-a, ctrl-v, etc.]
A.    You could go to rob’s page and copy one of his assignments.
B.    Paste it into the document
C. Now use the tab key to make the lines begin at later indents
D. Open the Bullets/Numbering tab under Format and click on Outline numbering.  It should look something like this document

  2. You can copy individual sections of text from the Adobe pdf (Portable Data Format) document.
  3. When you are finished, reSave and then Save as and create a backup.




Day 4
  1. Goto Clearview's home page, click on Technology Info link.  Scroll down and read: Choosing a Good Password for Computer Access & Protection.
  2. Next practice what you have read and choose 1 or 2 new passwords
  3. E-mail me your uncrackable passwords and how you created them.  I will respond with suggestions on how to make htem even better.




Day 3
  1. Finish BizLet assignment
  2. Go to My Documents Folder, open My Pictures Folder, open Sample Pictures.  Choose one to open in paint.
  3. Reduce the size of the photo.
  4. Complete BizLetter

Assignment #2

  1. Biz letter & e-mailing attachments 
  2. Open word and save file as “bizlet”. 
  3. Type me a business multi-paragraph letter (Format: Blue WB30)
    • Use proper format include title
    •  Explain the computer lab rules and course expectations.
    •  Include a closing paragraph that tells me what you want to learn in this class.
    •  Include a salutation
    •  Save file
    • Then “save as” and create a backup version “bizletbk”
    •  “Sign” your letter in a font similar to handwriting with a different color text
    •  Open your e-mail and send the letter as an attachment
