Skyline Elementary was built in 1980. The school was re-roofed in 1999.

One of 20 schools named by the state of Washington as a School for the 21st Century in 1988, Skyline has developed innovative new programs to meet the diverse needs of students both gifted and at risk. In 1992 Skyline Elementary was named by Washington State and the U.S. Department of Education as a School of Excellence.

As a result of the 2006 Capital Projects Bond, the following projects had been completed:

  • New connector road built between Vista Middle and Skyline Elementary schools
  • The Skyline parking lot and student drop-off/pick-up areas have been redesigned to provide a clear delineation between buses, parking and parent vehicles (see pictures)

The end result is a much safer area for all traffic and students. Parents needing to drop-off or pick up their Skyline students now enter the new road at Vista Middle School and then travel via the road to the new drop-off/pick up areas along the front of the school. Parents may also use the Vista parking lot on Vista Drive as a pick-up/drop-off area.

As a side project to the construction of Cascadia Elementary, the excavated soil from that job site was placed on the playfield at Skyline and then graded and reseeded.  In some places the fill material added three to four feet in elevation on the playfield ending the year round soggy conditions of the playfield (see pictures).
