At a special meeting held March 16, 2007, Ferndale School Board awarded the bid to construct the elementary school to Ebenal General Incorporated in the amount of $13,786,590 (including tax). Architects for the project are Rolluda Architects of Seattle.

Construction of the 500 student capacity school, to be located at 6175 Church Road, began July 1 2007. The school, given the name Cascadia Elementary at the December 2007 School Board meeting, will consist of four learning classroom clusters which have shared common areas, a library, a gymnasium, a computer lab and an atrium. The design also implements as many “green” construction concepts as is feasibly possible. Natural light is incorporated into all learning spaces.

Completion of the project is expected to be in time for students to attend school in the new building fall 2008. With successful passage of the 2008 Capital Projects Bond, Custer Elementary School staff and students will be housed at Cascadia for the 2008-2009 school year as the work for the new Custer Elementary School continues.
