North Bellingham Elementary SchoolNorth Bellingham Elementary School was built in 1934. A stage/music room was added in 1995 and additional classrooms were added in 1999. The following
projects were authorized through the passage of the March 2006 Capital Projects
Bond: However, due to substantial structural issues within the 1938 building discovered in the summer of 2007, FSD School Board made the decision to close the building to staff and students and thus the projects that were included in the 2006 Bond have been cancelled. Since that decision to close the 1938 building, staff has been distributed to other parts of the campus and a total of five portable buildings have been added. As of November 2007, all five portables are occupied and operational for student and staff use. The long-range plan for North Bellingham is for the demolition and construction of a new building to replace the 1938 building. This plan will not only address the current portable situation but also complete several other campus wide upgrades. Rolluda Architects, building and parent representatives have completed an extensive design process to not only match the past functions of the 1938 building but also look to meet the current and future educational needs of the North Bellingham students.
This project will be part of the 2008 Capital Projects Bond issue that will go before the voters on March 11, 2008. Tentatively planned, with successful passage of this 2008 Bond, North Bellingham Elementary School staff and students will be housed at Cascadia Elementary for the 2009-2010 school year as the work for the new 1938 building and other campus wide work continues.
